The Invictus Games Foundation is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Ghana’s Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman, NDC; Mr Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary candidate; Squadron leader Peter Baafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, who lost their lives in a helicopter incident yesterday in the Ashanti Region, Ghana.
We specifically remember, The Right Honourable Dr Edward Obame Boamah as a friend who welcomed representatives of the Invictus Games Foundation to Ghana in May 2025 where his support for our mission and vision was clear and inspiring. We left with great hope for Ghana’s future role within the Invictus Community of Nations.
“On behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the people of Ghana during this incredibly difficult time," Rob Owen OBE, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation.
Earlier this year, the Invictus Games Foundation was honoured to visit Ghana. The visit, part of our efforts to expand our global community and support sports recovery for wounded, injured and sick (WIS) service personnel and veterans, provided an invaluable opportunity to understand the needs and potential for sport recovery programmes in the region.
“We are truly saddened by this tragic loss for Ghana. In our meeting in May, Minister Boamah expressed such enthusiastic support for our mission to serve the wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans of Ghana; we hope to continue this work in his memory," David Wiseman, Chief Programmes & Strategy Officer, Invictus Games Foundation.
