Beyond The Games

The Invictus Games Foundation is proud to announce a new series of approved activities under its Beyond the Games programme, further expanding recovery opportunities for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans around the world.

Bringing together expertise from across the Invictus Community, the Programmes Advisory Board plays a vital role in reviewing and approving activities, ensuring the Foundation's support is directed towards initiatives that deliver meaningful, long term impact.

The latest approvals demonstrate our continued commitment to supporting recovery through locally led, sustainable programmes, helping communities where the need is great and creating new opportunities for connection, participation and growth through sport.

Adaptive Pickleball Network, Ukraine

In Ukraine, the Foundation is supporting the development of a veteran led adaptive pickleball network as part of the Invictus Games Foundation's Signature Programme for Ukraine. Building on the momentum created through recent national training camps and championships, the initiative will help wounded, injured and sick veterans establish and grow activity within their own communities.

Rather than focusing on one off events, the programme is designed to create sustainable opportunities for participation through locally led clubs and regular community based activity. Veteran leaders will be supported to become coaches and organisers, helping to strengthen local delivery while connecting participants into wider national activity. Supported by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and other partners, the programme represents an important step in expanding access to adaptive sport across Ukraine.

Multi Sport Training Camps, Nigeria

In Nigeria, three multi sport training camps will be delivered throughout 2026, providing wounded, injured and sick participants with opportunities to develop new skills, build confidence and experience the benefits of sport as part of their recovery journey. Hosted in Abuja, each camp will introduce participants to rowing, swimming, wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball, with adaptive techniques incorporated where appropriate.

The camps build on Nigeria's continued commitment to using sport as a vehicle for recovery and will support up to 50 participants across the programme. By providing regular opportunities to engage in sport throughout the year, the initiative will help strengthen recovery pathways and foster long term participation, with some attendees expected to progress towards representing Nigeria at Invictus Games Birmingham 2027.

Multi Nation Sports Camp, Belgium

In Belgium, we have provided funding for a multi nation sports camp that will bring together participants from Belgium, Estonia, Germany, France and the Netherlands for a week of sport, teamwork and international collaboration. Hosted in partnership with Conseil International du Sport Militaire, the camp will include cycling, pickleball and hiking, alongside community building activities designed to strengthen connections between participants from across Europe.

Delivered by specially trained adaptive coaches, the programme will culminate in friendly competition between the participating nations, providing an opportunity for participants to challenge themselves, share experiences and build lasting relationships within the wider Invictus Community.

Together, these initiatives highlight the breadth of the Foundation's approach, combining sport, skill development and community connection. By supporting programmes that are locally led and internationally connected, the Programmes Advisory Board ensures that each activity contributes to a wider ecosystem of recovery, enabling participants not only to rebuild, but to thrive.

What is the Programmes Advisory Board?

The Programmes Advisory Board supports the Board of Trustees and the Executive by providing guidance, oversight, and objective appraisal for IGF programmes and initiatives both during and beyond the Invictus Games. The Board reviews and approves grant proposals, advises on effective delivery and strategic planning, and ensures activities align with the Foundation's global reach and support for the international WIS community. Acting as ambassadors for the Foundation, the Board also helps identify new recovery opportunities, sports initiatives, and fundraising activities to grow the Invictus Movement worldwide.
