The final Invictus Adventure of 2023 Begins In Jordan
The Invictus Games Foundation has kicked off its final Invictus Adventure of 2023 with a trip to Jordan to learn about water conservation, contribute to a local project, explore and enjoy Jordanian culture and take part in a run through the Wadi Rum desert.
The Foundation is working with Impact Marathon, a marathon series that not only focuses on running in some of the most beautiful places in the world but also helping the local communities of those areas.
We have funded 8 members of the wounded, injured, or sick service community to take part in this Invictus Adventure, with attendees coming from Belgium, Canada, United Kingdom and the United States.
Family is a core component of a person’s recovery journey and big focus of our activities, and we are delighted to see some family members join this trip to support their loved one.
On this Adventure, they will first take in the sites of Amman, and today they visited the Hashemite Commission for Disabled Soldiers and meet with Invictus Games Team Jordan alumni to learn about the rehabilitation process underway for those injured whilst serving in the Jordanian forces.
The experience then shifts to learning about water scarcity in Jordan, a very important topic in the country, as Jordan has been declared the second most water scarce country on earth.
The attendees will help the local populace by building community gardens and see how they use permaculture gardening to maximise their water usage by growing the most food they can with the least water utilised.
These gardens are tended by local children who gain valuable experience in food production in a harsh environment.
A trip to an iconic Jordan landmark follows, as the team takes in the sites of Petra, an ancient archaeological site and one of the seven wonders of the world.
Finally, the run through the desert in Wadi Rum, which can be completed at distances of either 10km, 21km or a full marathon of 42km.
