A powerful new addition to the London Marathon will debut this year, as the Invictus Games Foundation, in collaboration with nine other military charities, unveils the ‘Veterans’ Corner’, a dedicated space celebrating the service, resilience, and ongoing contributions of the UK’s armed forces community.

Positioned at Mile 23 along the iconic marathon route, Veterans’ Corner will serve as a focal point for honouring veterans, amplifying their stories, and showcasing the collective impact of military charities across the United Kingdom. The initiative, led by the Invictus Games Foundation, will bring together a diverse coalition of organisations supporting veterans’ physical recovery, mental health, employment, and community reintegration.

The Veterans’ Corner will feature appearances from service personnel and veterans, charity representatives, and supporters, creating a vibrant and meaningful atmosphere for runners and spectators alike. The space aims to highlight not only the challenges veterans face, but also their extraordinary achievements beyond service.

As part of their sports for recovery opportunities offered beyond the Games, the Invictus Games Foundation has six wounded service personnel and veterans running the race this year as part of their recovery, an additional six runners fundraising, plus 60 international wounded injured and sick Service personnel and veterans running the virtual London Marathon MyWay, all kitted out in race vests from IGF partner, Brigantes.

Rob Owen OBE, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation said:

“The Veterans’ Corner is about visibility, unity, and recognition; Collaborating like this means all our servicemen and women running the race, as well as military charity supporters, will hopefully get a much-needed cheer and morale boost as they near the finish line of their marathon effort. We are excited for the upcoming Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, and while the Invictus Games shine a global spotlight on recovery through sport, this initiative with London Marathon is an opportunity to celebrate the wider ecosystem of support here in the UK, the charities, communities, and those individuals running to show their commitment to those who have served.”

The initiative underscores the London Marathon’s commitment to inclusivity and social impact, while reinforcing the vital role that the charity sector plays in supporting veterans and their families. It is hoped that the Veterans’ Corner will become a lasting fixture of the marathon, growing year-on-year as a platform for collaboration, awareness, and fundraising.
