Beyond The Games

After sustaining life changing combat injuries, Temuri Dadiani has rebuilt his life through sport and will now represent Georgia in Para Nordic skiing at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympics.

A former soldier in the Georgian Armed Forces, Temuri sustained life changing injuries while serving in Afghanistan in 2011. During his rehabilitation he discovered sport as an essential part of his recovery, helping him rebuild strength, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.

“Sport gave me purpose, discipline, and confidence again,” Temuri said just before competing at his third Paralympic Games.

“It helped rebuild both my physical strength and mental resilience, reminding me that recovery is not the end of the journey but the beginning of a new chapter.”

Temuri’s journey through recovery eventually led him to the Invictus Games and competing at the first ever winter hybrid edition of the Invictus Games, Vancouver Whistler 2025, an experience that became a defining moment in his life.

“The Invictus Games symbolized hope, courage, and transformation,” he said. “It showed me that despite injury, I could still compete, grow, and represent something bigger than myself.”

Competing at the Invictus Games also helped prepare him for the demands of elite sport. “Invictus introduced me to international competition, discipline, and a high performance mindset,” he explained.

“It taught me focus, resilience, and belief, which are essential for elite sport and Paralympic level competition.”

Through sport, Temuri has continued to challenge himself and push beyond perceived limits, ultimately earning the opportunity to compete once again for Georgia on the Paralympic stage.

Reflecting on the role sport has played in his recovery, Temuri says it gave him something invaluable. “Purpose.”

He also credits the Invictus Community for providing a sense of connection and belonging throughout his journey. “Because of the Invictus Community I can belong.”

But most all, Temuri hopes his story will inspire others who may be at the beginning of their own recovery journeys.

“Take the step,” he said. “The Invictus Games are about strength, community, and rediscovering your potential. You will find support, inspiration, and a new belief in yourself.”
