“The IGF Conversation with Invictus Australia: Building the Legacy” marked the latest instalment of the Invictus Games Foundation’s ongoing IGF Conversation series. Designed to promote the exchange of best practice across the global Invictus Community, this series encourages open, informal dialogue between programme leaders, practitioners, and Invictus Games Alumni - including families - through virtual events and in-person gatherings. Its purpose is to spark shared learning and collaboration across the Movement without the formality of traditional presentations.
This edition explored how long-term, community-based recovery initiatives can grow from the Invictus Games, and for the first time was delivered live from the Sydney headquarters of Invictus Australia. It represented an important milestone as the Foundation continues to strengthen a truly global Invictus Movement.
The discussion examined how the momentum created during the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 evolved into a sustainable programme that now supports veterans and service personnel year-round. It highlighted how national interest, community connection, and the values of the Invictus Movement have combined to shape a lasting legacy that extends far beyond the Games themselves.
Panel 1: Invictus Programmes Beyond the Games – What Happens When the Lights Go Off
The first panel gathered leaders from across the Invictus Community of Nations—including Invictus Australia, Invictus Games Düsseldorf 2023, and the True Patriot Love Foundation in Canada—to explore how recovery through sport continues once the Games have concluded. Their conversation focused on how each nation builds ongoing opportunities for wounded, injured, or sick service personnel and veterans, ensuring the Invictus spirit remains active long after the competition ends.
