Beyond The Games

From sunrises in New Zealand to late-night finishes in Canada, the Invictus Games Foundation community came together this weekend to conquer the TCS London Marathon MyWay—26.2 miles completed by walking, running, or wheeling, wherever they were in the world.

Dozens of international participants representing the Invictus Community took on the marathon remotely, united by a single goal (and a shared WhatsApp group) that transcended borders and time zones. For many, the group chat became more than a place for updates—it became a lifeline of motivation, humour, and heart.

Kicking off the 24 hour challenge, Josh Boggi, We Are Invictus Community Manager for the Invictus Games Foundation, shared "Wherever you are in the world, remember you’re part of something bigger, and the Invictus Community is right behind you.”

From Nigeria to New Zealand, Colombia to Canada, Georgia and the UK, the virtual finish line was crossed with pride.

First up, Peter Job, joining from the Kwara State, Nigeria, began at dawn: “Live doing what I love. Thank you, the Invictus Games Foundation,” he wrote. Later, after finishing despite a muscle pull and punishing heat, he added, “It wasn’t easy… but I am grateful.”

Meanwhile, in the south of New Zealand, Stacey Adams shared the joy of crisp autumn leaves underfoot whilst walking the distance, and said: “This is what's awesome about being part of this community is knowing that every day can bring a challenge, and just showing up sometimes is enough!” Another Kiwi, Kelly, added from Christchurch: “Walking 30km is better than a day sat on the couch! I’ll make up the rest next year...”

Humour and empathy flowed freely. Leslie in the USA joked, “My co-partner likes to stop and sniff a lot. So no records will be broken—but she’s great at supporting me,” referring to her loyal dog Hana. Others shared that they were pausing to rest, nap, or simply soak in the experience—because for this community, pace didn’t matter. Purpose did.

Vincent from Benin City Nigeria summed up the mood with: “26.2 miles, done and dusted. Special shout-out to all the willing and determined men and women both physically in London and joining virtually all over the world… You are all heroes of the feat. No impossibility!”

The marathon may have been virtual, but the solidarity was very real. Encouragement flowed constantly: “Keep stepping, everyone. One step at a time.” “Everyone be proud of your achievements today.” “ I could not have done this without the support of you all, grateful for this community and sharing our accomplishments. Proud of us—I AM!”

For many the encouragement got them through, but were feeling it the next day, Ingrid from the Netherlands shared, "At this moment, I have muscles in spots where I didn't know I had them! But this was a ground-breaking activity."

As the sun set on each continent, Richard from Colombia summed it up best, "Today I completed the marathon fuelled by heart and determination. It's not about the pace or the means, it's about never giving up. Proud to be part of a community that never surrenders. We Are Invictus!"
