The Invictus Games Foundation funded 22 competitors to take part in the recent British Rowing Indoor Championships.

The British Rowing Indoor Championships (BRIC) were held at the NEC in Birmingham in conjunction with FitFest 2023, a competitive fitness festival hosting over 5,000 athletes.

Almost 1,500 competitors took part in BRIC’s 50 rowing races with this being the first in person event to take place since 2019.

The Invictus Games Foundation (IGF) supported (22) competitors from across The UK and Ukraine.

The IGF through the generous assistance of Monster Energy Cares, the philanthropic foundation of Monster Energy, supported the 6 Ukrainian competitors to take part in this event.

Paul Case competed as part of Team UK at the most recent Invictus Games of Düsseldorf 2023 and took part in BRIC to continue his recovery journey and won two medals.

“Winning gold and bronze in my events were amazing, showing how far I have come with my continued training since the Invictus Games Düsseldorf 2023.

“Meeting up with my old teammates and getting to meet other members of the [Invictus Games] Foundation team was great,” he continued.

“I have learnt that hard work and training pays off, despite my limitations. It was an honour to compete for the Invictus Games Foundation and I will be looking out for more opportunities in the future,” Paul said.

The Invictus Games Foundation has a long history of working with British Rowing, as we supported the first virtual championships in 2019 and assisted them in revamping their indoor rowing classification system and event formats to be more inclusive and create a large level playing field.

Ben Gallagher, a competitor at Düsseldorf 2023 and is now on Team GB Para-Rowing pathway and hopes to soon qualify for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

“This provided an activity to remain connected and just seeing everyone’s improvements on the rowing machine and how they are now using it as part of their recovery. An event like BRIC in the calendar is a great opportunity for this,” Ben said.

As we know, sport is an incredible tool for recovery for the international wounded, injured or sick service community and with the help of Monster Energy, we are committed to helping the Ukrainian WIS community during this incredibly difficult time.

If you’re a member of the international wounded, injured or sick service community and are interested in using rowing as part of your recovery journey, you can sign up to the Powered by Invictus virtual sporting leagues on the We Are Invictus platform and start logging times and competing with others in rowing.
