The Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 marks the return of the Games to the UK after the country hosted the inaugural Invictus Games London 2014. While the Invictus Movement has evolved over the last 10 years, the Games continue to stand as a shining beacon of recovery for so many members of the international wounded, injured or sick service and veteran community.

The Invictus Games Foundation was born out of the inaugural 2014 Games and we serve as the custodian of the Invictus Spirit, facilitating year-round sport recovery opportunities and acting as the Governing Body of the Invictus Games. The Foundation selected Birmingham in 2024 as the host of the 2027 Games, from a shortlist between Birmingham and Washington DC. The vision of the West Midlands bid, its proposed legacy, and the deep rooted support for the community within Birmingham was the reason the region won through.

A Historic Location for the UK's Service Community - Queen Elizabeth Hospital

During the Afghanistan conflict, some of the most severely injured veterans were evacuated from the conflict zone and treated at the QE Hospital in Selly Oak.

The hospital is also home to the Royal College of Defence Medicine and the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre is also based in the Midlands, near Loughborough. Family members for those being treated nearby could find support from Fisher House Birmingham.

A Venue at the Heart Of Everything - National Exhibition Centre (NEC)

The Organising Committee for Birmingham 2027 plan to deliver one of the most accessible and convenient Invictus Games ever for the spectators, competitors, friends and family, and the local community.

The National Exhibition Centre (NEC) will serve as a one stop shop for almost everything at Birmingham 2027, the convention centre is connected to Birmingham Airport and Birmingham International Railway Station, has over 3,000 hotel rooms on site, sporting venues and arenas and is all housed through an interconnected indoor/outdoor space that is entirely accessible.

A Festival of Fun - Side Events

Birmingham 2027 want to create a fun festival atmosphere at the NEC and utilise the conventions centre's staggering space to welcome the entire world to the Games.

There is space to fit 12 sized Premiere League football pitches in the NEC and the Birmingham 2027 Organising Committee want to utilise that space for not just the sports of the Invictus Games but also to host educational programmes, entertainment, and music, amongst a host of other fun side events.

The side event schedule for this Invictus Games will be packed with things to do for all the family.

With the passing of today's milestone, the Birmingham 2027 organisers revealed that 11 organisations have already pledged over £4 million in support to the Games.

This significant commitment from leading corporations and private partners marks a powerful vote of confidence in the Invictus Games and the mission it represents - delivering a world-class sporting event with long-lasting impact.

“It shows that the values of Invictus Games resonate deeply with those who have the power to shape impact at scale,” Vicky Gosling, Chair of the Board of Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 commented, “We’re not just building a sporting event, we’re building a platform for rehabilitation, education, and community connection. This support puts that vision firmly in motion.”
