Sixty wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans from around the world took part in the London Marathon MyWay as part of the Invictus Community, completing the challenge remotely while connected through the Invictus Games Foundation.

Participants completed the marathon in their own countries and communities, demonstrating the global reach of the Invictus movement and the role sport continues to play in recovery journeys beyond the Invictus Games.

The initiative formed part of the Foundation’s Beyond the Games opportunities, giving members of the international Armed Forces community the chance to take on a major personal challenge while remaining connected through shared experience and purpose via the We Are Invictus platform.

“Being involved in the Invictus Community is amazing and something I’ll always treasure and be proud of,” said Danny Burke.

“With enough time, even with slow small steps you can achieve great distances like a marathon,” said Vincent Lamothe.

Participants completed the challenge across a range of locations and environments, each with their own personal motivations and stories of recovery, resilience, and family support.

“I shared this moment with my family. My son accompanied me for the tough first part of the route, but reaching the summit was magnificent,” said Vincent.

For many, the challenge represented far more than completing 26.2 miles, becoming a reflection of their wider recovery journey and future ambitions.

“The pride of having seen this huge challenge through to the end. It’s the hardest part, but we know why we’re doing it. We give it our all,” Vincent said.

“If our journey can inspire others and show them that anything is possible.”

Others spoke about the lasting impact the Invictus Community continues to have on confidence, wellbeing, and self belief.

François Vuillemin was thankful and grateful to the Invictus Games Foundation for providing this opportunity saying: “The power of determination, you do so much for our recovery."

“We become stronger and prouder, and our self esteem returns. We are capable of achieving wonderful things," François said.

Participants wore race vests provided by Invictus Games Foundation's official apparel partner Brigantes and completed the challenge alongside the wider London Marathon weekend, which also saw veteran runners, fundraisers, and supporters come together at Veterans’ Corner at Mile 23 of the marathon route in London.

Through opportunities like London Marathon MyWay, the Invictus Games Foundation continues to support recovery through sport, community, and shared challenge across the global Invictus Community.

If you are a member of the international Armed Forces community and were injured or fell ill during or as a direct result of your service, you are eligible to join the We Are Invictus platform and access opportunities Beyond the Games.
